The United States and the Philippines have launched their most expansive and expensive joint military drills in years — a major show of allied force around the South China Sea.
The weeks-long combat exercises, featuring 16,000 military personnel, have caused alarm and anger in Beijing, but the Philippine army insists these trainings are not directed at a particular country.
