India considering to revoke 'draconian' AFSPA law from Jammu and Kashmir after decades

Weeks ahead of a general election, India's government says it could consider revoking the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the region of Jammu and Kashmir.

This law has been called 'draconian' by many human rights activists, as it gives sweeping powers to the armed forces to conduct search and seizure operations, and open fire in areas of conflict.
