Indian farmers and government to hold talks again

Protesting farmers say they'll hold where they are and not march to the capital New Delhi, so long as no more tear gas is fired at them.

That's as union leaders plan to hold a third round of talks with a team of ministers.

The farmers want the Modi government to honour promises made in 2021, including higher prices for their crops.

The protests come just months before a general election, and are reminiscent of the year-long 2020 demonstrations.

They pose the highest risk to the Bharatiya Janata Party and its decade long rule.
