President Biden pushes for more emergency relief funding in wake of natural disasters

US President Joe Biden is seeking an additional $4 billion for the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Disaster Relief Fund in the wake of Hurricane Idalia.

The administration's extra request brings the total package, which needs to be passed by Congress, to $16 billion.

Idalia, which made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast on Wednesday, has moved on from the United States mainland -- but across the country's Southeast, tens of thousands of people still remain without power, with the storm submerging neighbourhoods and leaving a trail of destruction in her wake.

Benji Hyer reports.
