The United States has approved the potential sale of $619 million of weapons to Taiwan, including hundreds of missiles for F-16 fighter jets.
China claims the island as its own territory and the arms sale is likely to further inflame tensions between Washington and Beijing.
It comes as Taiwan reported a second day of large-scale Chinese air force incursions.
