China's top diplomat Wang Yi is in Rome as Beijing tries to repair strained ties with European nations.
The European Union has repeatedly called for China to use its influence over Russia to end the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.
Wang's trip also comes after the U.S. shot down a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon.
