ENGLAND'S DOCTORS GIVEN TWO WEEK TARGET

Doctors in England are being told they need to be able to offer patients appointments within two weeks.

The new UK government says GP surgeries will be able to recruit more staff, and the National Health Service will roll out new telephone systems to manage demand.

The NHS is dealing with a huge post-covid backlog which is contributing to long delays for many patients.

The Royal College of GPs says the proposals will have "minimal impact".

But Health Secretary Therese Coffey says the support will help surgeries currently struggling.
