Over 50 Conservative MPs have written to UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson urging a 'clear road map' out of tiered lockdown restrictions in the north of England.
The so-called 'Northern Research Group' also calls on the Prime Minister to ensure the region is not 'left behind' as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Downing Street says it remains committed to its 'levelling up' agenda which has promised major spending on projects in northern England.
And Business minister Nadhim Zahawi says the MPs can be reassured the toughest restrictions will not go on indefinitely.
