The UK government says it has no plans to change guidance on the wearing of face coverings in schools.
All schools in England are due to return early next month, but the government is not advising children or staff to wear face masks.
Downing Street says masks could hinder communication between teachers and pupils and insists scientific guidance suggests the return of schools will be safe.
But the World Health Organization says children over 12 should wear masks.
Business Secretary Alok Sharma says the government's position on masks in schools is settled.
