UK GOVT BATTLES KNIFE CRIME CRISIS

The UK government's being urged to treat knife crime as seriously as terrorism.

The call from former government minister Vernon Coaker comes amid a growing political crisis over the issue.

The number of children under 16 who were stabbed in England jumped 93% between 2016 and 2018.

The government is denying claims from critics that the spike in knife crime is due to austerity and police cuts.
