Moon believes there will 'definitely' be a nuclear-free peninsula

South Korean President Moon Jae-in remains strongly confident there will be a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula. This, despite North Korea and the U.S. failing to reach a deal last week over Kim Jong-un's nuclear weapons program.

Bruce Harrison tells us more from Seoul.

Ever-optimistic, President Moon told naval cadets at a graduation ceremony that denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and permanent peace will definitely come.

North Korea claims it needs nuclear weapons to deter U.S. military threats.

President Donald Trump and leader Kim Jong-un met last week to talk about Kim giving up his weapons.

They couldn't reach a deal.

But Moon won't quit.

His government is now pushing for three-way talks among Seoul, Washington and Pyongyang.

But ultimately, he believes Seoul should call the shots.

He told the cadets it's up to South Korea to decide the fate of the Peninsula based on the strength of its military.
