BELUGA WATCH IN THE THAMES

Conservationists and rescue teams are on standby to help a beluga whale if it reappears in the River Thames.

It was spotted on Tuesday near Gravesend in Kent, to the east of London.

Experts say the whale, which normally lives in the Arctic, must be lost - and were concerned it would swim down the Thames into London rather than back out to sea.

Tanya Ferry from the Port of London Authority says whale sightings in the Thames are not unheard of.
