Zuckerberg says Facebook will step up security

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg says his company will step up security in the wake the data scandal rocking the social media behemoth.

But in a statement released Wednesday he stopped short of on apology.

Zuckerberg admits Facebook made mistakes amid allegations Trump campaign-linked Cambridge Analytica improperly obtained the personal data of 50 million users.

Facebook is promising a full audit of any third party app with "suspicious activity," and says it will further restrict access to user information by developers.

US correspondent Steve Mort says Mark Zuckerberg claims Cambridge Analytica was asked to delete the improperly obtained data in 2015.
