Russia preparing to retaliate over diplomatic expulsions

Russia is expected to retaliate soon over the expulsion of dozens of its officials from more than 20 countries.

About 60 Russians have been asked to leave the US, and the number of European Union member states to expel its diplomats has risen to 16.

Australia has also ordered more than one hundred Russian diplomats to return home, as relations between the West and Moscow further deteriorate.

A Russian government spokesman says recommendations for retaliatory actions will soon be forwarded to President Vladimir Putin.

US correspondent Steve Mort says the White House wanted to show a united front.
