MAY SCRAMBLES ON BREXIT DEAL

British Prime Minister Theresa May is racing to try and secure support from the Democratic Unionist Party for a Brexit deal she'd largely agreed with the European Union.

Mrs May pulled out of an agreement with Brussels which would have allowed negotiations to move onto the next phase - because the DUP wouldn't back its suggestion to keep an open Irish border.

The DUP back the Conservative government at Westminster, so its support is crucial to Theresa May's administration.

She wants to settle key issues before an EU summit on 14th December which can give the green light to post-Brexit trade talks.

Former Northern Ireland Secretary Theresa Villiers believes the DUP can be persuaded to go along with the type of arrangements being suggested.
