Rex Tillerson sworn in as US Secretary of State


Rex Tillerson has been sworn in as the US Secretary of State.

Donald Trump, who attended the event in the oval office, said Mr Tillerson would bring unique skills to the role.

Despite 43 senators voting against his appointment, The former ExxonMobil CEO had earlier sealed the majority backing needed from the US Senate.

America's top diplomat takes on a full inbox of issues, from Iran, to ISIS to the ongoing border-wall dispute with Mexico but likely at top will be Trump's controversial executive orders which currently ban all refugees entering the US and deny people from mainly Muslim countries.

President Trump, speaking after Tillerson was sworn in, said the Texan would rise to the demands of the job.
