A state of emergency has been declared in California, as wildfires
ravage dry land along the state's iconic coastline and encroach on
neighborhoods of the Santa Clarita Valley. With California's governor
Jerry Brown otherwise engaged at the Democratic National Convention in
Cleveland, the state's acting Governor Tom Torlakson made the
emergency call to free up fire-fighting resources.
