Obama strongly defends deal with Iran

U.S. President Barack Obama has strongly defended a historic nuclear deal with Iran, saying the alternative was to clear the way for Iran to become a nuclear power.

At a news conference in Washington, the president called on Congress- where there is stiff opposition to dismantling sanctions against Iran- to support the deal.

His comments come a day after the U.S. and five other world powers struck the agreement with Tehran.
