Washington marks 70th anniversary of V-E Day

Countries around the world are marking to the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe or V-E Day Friday, the day when the Allied parties formally accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany.

The agreement led to parties and celebrations in the streets in the US, UK, and elsewhere, as families celebrated the end of a six year war.

In Washington, President Obama paid tribute to the heroism of those  who took part in the war effort - on the front lines and at home.
