Nearly 6000 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean over the weekend

Rescue missions in the Mediterranean sea have saved at least 5 thousand 800 migrants form flimsy boats over the last weekend alone.

Tens of thousands of migrants - fleeing poverty and persecution - are paying large sums of money to be trafficked from the Libyan coast to reach European Union shores in hope of a better life.
