The Japanese government is describing this as a very difficult situation and continuing to work with the Jordanian government on the release of journalist Kenji Goto.

At the U.S. State Department, spokesperson Jen Psaki said Washington remains in solidarity with their Japanese and Jordanian allies as the hours tick by.
