HK LEADER REJECTS CALLS TO STEP DOWN AMID PROTESTS

Hong Kong's chief executive CY Leung has rejected calls to step down and urged pro-democracy protesters to stop their campaign 'immediately'.

Many streets in Hong Kong remain blocked by demonstrators demanding a free vote for the territory's next leader.

China has already rejected that and says the candidates in 2017's leadership election will be approved first by a pro-Beijing committee.

Journalist Jane Parry is in Hong Kong and says crowds are growing again ahead of Chinese National Day on Wednesday.
