US stocks close down following rate hike concerns

US stocks closed down on Tuesday, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq faring particularly badly.


This comes as investors renewed bets that interest rates could stay high for longer than planned.

RUSSIAN NAVY TESTS MISSILES IN SEA OF JAPAN

Police search for motive in Nashville school shooting

Police in Nashville, Tennessee are still searching for a motive in Monday's elementary school shooting that left three children and three adults dead. Authorities say the alleged shooter - 28-year-old Audrey Hale - was a former student of the Covenant School and that she may have harbored resentment at having attended the institution.  Toni Waterman has more from outside the school.

US authorities are still trying to find a motive after a heavily armed
woman killed three 9-year-old students and three adults at an
elementary school in Nashville, Tennessee.

Police say the 28-year-old shooter - who was shot dead by police -
left a detailed manifesto, with other potential shooting locations
also listed.

The White House is now calling for greater gun control - including
President Joe Biden pushing for a ban on assault-type weapons.

39 dead at US-Mexico migrant detention centre

At least 39 people have died in a fire at a migrant detention facility near the US- Mexico border.


Mexico's National Migration Institute said the blaze started in the sleeping area of its facility in Ciudad Juárez.


It's one of the worst fires in recent years in Mexico, which has seen record levels of border crossings.
