Scotland bans heading for professional footballers

Professional footballers in Scotland will be banned from heading the ball before and after matches due to concerns about brain damage.


Research shows that former players are far more likely to suffer from dementia and other health issues than the wider public.

Nigeria’s Government Says it is 90% Ready to Resume Abuja-Kaduna Train Services

Nigeria's government says it is 90 percent ready to resume services on the Abuja - Kaduna Train.


The country's National Railway Corporation suspended operations of train services on that route when Boko haram attacked a Kaduna-bound train in March, killing at least eight people and kidnapping dozens.

EU countries hold up agreement on G7 Russian oil price cap

European Union ambassadors are resuming talks to agree details of a price cap on Russian oil exports. 


The G7 group of wealthy democracies announced plans for a price cap earlier this year, but disagreement in Brussels has been holding up implementation.


Under the plans, G7 nations would ban the provision of insurance and other services needed for seaborne shipments of Russian oil unless it is sold at or below the price agreed.

Their position comes a day after African leaders met at a summit in the Angolan capital and agreed on a ceasefire and the withdrawal of the M23 rebels from all the territories they've captured in eastern DRC. EU ministers mull trade retaliation over US green subsidies

European Union trade ministers are meeting for talks on how to respond to US legislation which they say distorts fair competition.


The US Inflation Reduction Act -- aimed at accelerating the green transition -- offers tax cuts to US electric vehicle producers. Brussels says that disadvantages European automakers like Volkswagen or Renault, and could tempt manufacturers to relocate production to the US. 


Ministers are mulling measures including retaliatory subsidies and action at the World Trade Organisation.

UK promises ambulances and funding to Ukraine

The UK will send 24 ambulances to Ukraine and a multi-million pound support package to rebuild infrastructure destroyed in Russian attacks.


During a trip to Kyiv, Foreign Secretary James Cleverly met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to offer what he called the UK's 'unwavering support'.


This follows a visit by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak earlier this week, who announced a fifty million pound package of defensive military support.

French MPs vote to enshrine abortion rights in France's constitution

French lawmakers have voted overwhelmingly in favour of enshrining abortion rights in the French constitution.

The legislation will now go to the French upper house which also needs to vote for the changes in order for the constitution to be modified.

NURSES SET STRIKE DATES IN UK

Dates have been set for the biggest strikes by nurses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in history.

The Royal College of Nursing says industrial action over pay will take place on 15th and 20th December.

Nurses will only provide emergency care and a skeleton staff, and the government says it's working on plans to minimise disruption.

Ministers say current inflation-busting pay demands for nurses are unreasonable.
