Outgoing US President Joe Biden has officially blocked a Japanese company from buying the United States Steel Corporation, warning that foreign ownership would pose a danger to national security.
Nippon Steel, the fourth-largest steelmaker in the world, had bid close to $15 billion to purchase the once-iconic American industrial powerhouse.

The number of people in hospital with flu in England has more than quadrupled since last month.
New National Health Service figures show the number of admissions for flu is also up sharply compared to this week last year.
Roughly five thousand people with the virus are being treated in hospital at the moment, with some senior doctors warning that services are being pushed to breaking point.

The UK Government has announced new laws aimed at tackling suspected people smugglers.
It comes after figures showed a 25 per cent increase in the number of migrants crossing the English Channel in 2024.
