US expresses concern over South Korea
The United States says it has "every hope and expectation that any political dispute" in South Korea "will be resolved peacefully and in accordance with the rule of law."
President Yoon Suk Yeol has declared emergency martial law in the Republic of Korea in a bid to rule by military authority, a move he claims is necessary to protect the country from North Korea's "communist forces."
But lawmakers there have since voted to block the President's power, after protests outside Parliament overnight.
