French president to chair cabinet meeting amid political deadlock

The French president will chair the first cabinet meeting since inconclusive national elections saw no one party emerge with a majority.

The biggest group in parliament - the leftist New Popular Front alliance - have not been able to agree on a candidate to be prime minister since the vote on July 7.

Four dead in rare Oman shooting

At least four people have been killed with several others wounded in a
shooting at a mosque in Oman.

Such scenes are rare in the Gulf nation and comes on the religious day

Biden says Trump bull's-eye remark "a mistake"

US President Joe Biden has said it was "a mistake" to use the word
"bull's-eye" following criticism his language led to the attempted
assassination of Donald Trump.

Some Republicans have blamed rhetoric used by Biden and other
Democrats for being the reason behind the attack.

In an interview recorded by NBC at the White House on Monday, Biden defended
his remarks, while highlighting Trump's previous inflammatory
comments.

United States in “heightened threat environment” following Trump shooting; Mayorkas slams conspiracies

US Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas warns the United States is now in a "heightened threat environment" after the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump. 


But Secretary Mayorkas says he still has "100% confidence" in the Secret Service, despite Saturday's shooting.

UK Court Dismisses P&ID Appeal, Upholds Nigeria’s £43 Million Award

A UK court has ruled in favour of Nigeria in an appeal filed by the Process & Industrial Development or P&ID challenging a previous ruling over what currency the payment of the legal costs incurred by Nigeria in a lawsuit involving the firm would be.


This follows a judgment in December last year which dismissed an award of $11 billion damages to P & ID over a failed oil and gas project.

Florida judge dismisses Trump classified docs case

A Florida judge has dismissed the criminal case against Donald Trump on charges of mishandling top secret documents.


On Monday, Judge Aileen (AY-LEEN) Cannon granted the defence motion to throw out the case because of how the Special Prosecutor was appointed.


The ruling removes a major legal hurdle facing the former president ahead of November's presidential election.


This comes just days after Trump survived an assassination attempt at a rally in the US state of Pennsylvania.
