About half of Ukraine's power generating capacity had been knocked out by recent Russian attacks on the energy grid, prompting authorities to introduce rolling blackouts across the country. But a weekend attack caused further damage to an already crippled system, particularly in Ukraine's western regions that have been spared heavier bombardment throughout the war.

President Biden slams "reckless" and "dangerous" attempts to paint Trump trial as "rigged"

US President Joe Biden has criticised what he calls "reckless" and "dangerous" efforts to paint Donald Trump's trial as "rigged," saying the historic criminal conviction reaffirms "the American principle that no one is above the law."

Mr Biden's predecessor was found guilty of attempting to influence the 2016 Presidential vote by falsifying business records to cover up payments to a porn star in return for her silence about an affair.

It's the first time a former or serving US President has been found guilty of a crime, and it's one of four criminal trials Trump faces as he runs for office.

Washington DC reacts to Trump conviction

Senior Republican lawmakers in the United States have reacted with fury and defiance to Donald Trump's historic criminal conviction, the first ever handed down to a former or current US President.

A New York jury found the party's presumptive Presidential nominee — now a felon — guilty of attempting to influence the 2016 election by falsifying business records to cover up payments to a porn star in return for her silence about an affair.

But Trump allies on Capitol Hill, often vocal proponents of so-called "law-and-order," have slammed the verdict. Even his sceptics are weighing in with their support, as Benji Hyer reports from Washington.
