EU AGREES IRAN SANCTIONS AS WORLD WAITS ON ISRAEL RESPONSE

Final coutndown to world's largest election

It's the final countdown to the start of the world's largest election. Campaigning in India for the first phase of polling - that will take place on Friday - has ended and a 'silent period' is now in effect.

This is a requirement as per Indian laws that prevents parties from influencing voters just before polling.

Nearly 1 billion people are eligible to vote. Polling will be conducted in seven phases with a winner declared only on June 4th.

Philippine coastguard to join US military drills for the first time

INTRO: The Philippine coast guard says it will take part in annual joint military exercises, starting on Monday, with the United States for the first time.

US Congress dismisses impeachment effort against top Biden official

Lawmakers in the United States have voted to end impeachment proceedings against Director of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, before they could even go to trial. 


Democrat Party Senators dismissed the two articles of impeachment against Secretary Mayorkas, which were brought by Republicans who argue his department is failing to stem record flows of migrants entering the country from Mexico. 


Secretary Mayorkas — the man in charge of governing America's borders — was the first US cabinet member to be impeached in nearly 150 years, with House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson calling him "the greatest domestic threat to the safety of the American people." But the Senate's actions on Wednesday means he won't be convicted.

Whistleblowers slam Boeing's safety record in Congressional hearing

A whistleblower who works at the American aerospace manufacturer Boeing has told US lawmakers that some of its planes are at risk of "dropping to the ground" unless major safety issues are immediately addressed. 


Engineer Sam Salehpour testified on Wednesday in front of a Congressional committee, warning hundreds of people could lose their lives due to an issue on one of Boeing's most popular fleets.

Security Council to vote on Palestinian statehood on Thursday
