At least three dead in California storms

At least three people have died in the wake of powerful rainstorms that have swept through California.


The extreme weather also left more than half a million Californians without power.

US says it will "not stop" defending itself in the Middle East

The UN Security Council held an urgent meeting Monday afternoon,
Russia accused the United States of fanning tensions in the Middle

King Charles diagnosed with cancer

King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer.


The type of cancer has not been revealed, but according to Buckingham Palace, the monarch, aged 75, has started "regular treatment."


The King, the Palace says, "remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible."

Antonio Guterres sets up review of UNRWA

The United Nations Secretary General has instituted an independent
review of its aid agency UNRWA.
The review is set to assess whether the Agency is doing everything
within its power to ensure neutrality and to respond to allegations of
serious breaches that may have been made.
Last month, Israel alleged that some UNRWA staff took part in the
October 7 attacks by Hamas.

US Senate releases border bill with aid for Ukraine, Israel

US senators have released details of a $118 billion defense bill that
would provide aid for Ukraine and Israel, and security for the
US-Mexico border.

However, Republicans including former president Donald Trump have
slammed the proposal, saying it's not sufficient to end illegal
immigration.

World Cup Final to be held near New York City

The 2026 World Cup final will be held in the US state of New Jersey, just outside of New York City.


Football international governing body FIFA announced on Sunday the match will be played at MetLife Stadium, to cap a tournament set in cities across the US, Canada and Mexico.


Fans in New York and New Jersey welcomed the news, with the event expected to bring in over $2 billion for the region.

Israel to employ workers from India and other countries to replace Palestinians

The Israeli government says it will bring in 65,000 workers from India, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan to work in the country's construction industry.

Senegal lawmakers debate election delay


There's an uneasy calm in Senegal after opposition protesters clashed with the police over the weekend

It comes after the country's President postponed elections slated for February 25.

Senegal's parliament is now debating the election delay and will vote on whether or not to make the delay binding.

EU's top diplomat issues warning about UNRWA funding


The European Union's top diplomat Josep Borrell says defunding UNRWA "would put hundreds of thousands of lives at risk."

The UN agency provides humanitarian support to Palestinians but multiple countries - including the U.S. - have recently frozen their funding for it.

That's after 12 UNRWA staff have been accused of taking part in the 7th October Hamas attacks on Israel last year.

Indian state to set to table contentious Uniform Civil Code bill

Zee says it can go to tribunal to enforce Sony merger deal

California faces "life-threatening" flooding

The US state of California is facing heavy rain and snowfall, with
authorities issuing flood warnings authorities are describing as
"life-threatening".

Around 94% of the population - 37 million people - are now under flood
alerts, while some communities have been told to evacuate.

The state is forecast to experience several days of extreme weather.
