Indian opposition leaders protest mass suspensions

The winter session of the Indian parliament has wrapped up - and this time around it was marked by large protests, expulsions, a major security breach, followed by a record number of suspensions.

The government has maintained that the suspensions were valid and has promised to to take corrective measures following the security breach.

But as Priyata Brajabasi reports, opposition parties are vowing to continue their protest against the government even though the session is over.

Federal judge blocks California law restricting guns

A federal judge has blocked a California law that would have banned guns in most public places on the grounds that it is unconstitutional.

The ruling is a blow for gun control advocates, but the state says it plans to appeal the decision.

U.S. man found innocent of murder after completing sentence of 48 years in jail

A man in the U.S. state of Oklahoma has been exonerated after nearly half a century in jail.

He was freed in July after serving time for murder: a crime which he has always said he did not commit.

Glynn Simmons is 71 years old, and his lawyers are now pushing for compensation.

US GDP grows but voters remains dissatisfied at economy

The US economy grew 4.9% last quarter, new figures show — that's lower than recent estimates, but still the fastest pace of expansion since the fourth quarter of 2021. 


The Bureau of Economic Analysis said the rise "reflected increases in consumer and government spending."

Parliamentarians protest mass suspensions by Indian government

Opposition parties in India have taken to the streets to protest a mass suspension of their leaders from Parliament.

In the last one week, more than 146 Parliamentarians have been suspended- all of them from opposition parties.

This is the largest mass suspension ever. Critics have accused the Modi government of undermining democracy itself, a charge his government denies, accusing the opposition of deliberately disrupting proceedings.

Nigerian Govt. Approves Free Transportation For Commuters During Christmas Holiday

The Nigerian government has rolled out a programme aimed at reducing the rising fares of inter-state transportation during the Christmas season.

It has announced a 50 percent rebate for commercial road transportation across 28 luxury bus routes nationwide, and zero fare by rail from December 24th to January 4th next year.

Ukraine's defense minister says Ukrainian men living abroad will be mobilized

Justin Trudeau sees ‘shift’ in Canada-India ties after US indictment

A day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the United States' allegations of an Indian official's involvement in an assassination plot against a sikh separatist, his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau says India now seems 'more open to collaborating' with Ottawa.

US-Venezuela prisoner swaps sees Americans freed

Venezuela has freed ten Americans who'd been detained there, a move the government in Caracas hopes will relieve sanctions on the country. 


As part of an agreed prisoner swap mediated by Qatar, the United States in return released from jail an accused money launderer close to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

U.N Security Council vote on Gaza postponed again

The United Nations Security has officially postponed the vote on a
humanitarian resolution on Gaza to Thursday.
The vote was first scheduled for Monday but due to "intense"
negotiations between member states the vote has been postponed several
times.
