funding fights in the new year.

A deal over more aid for Ukraine and tighter border security remains
elusive, while a government shutdown needs to be averted later in
January.

US air travel predicted to surpass holiday records

Around 115 million Americans are expected to travel for the upcoming holidays.

Parliamentarians protest mass suspensions by Indian government

Opposition parties in India have taken to the streets to protest a mass suspension of their leaders from Parliament.

In the last one week, more than 146 Parliamentarians have been suspended- all of them from opposition parties.

This is the largest mass suspension ever. Critics have accused the Modi government of undermining democracy itself, a charge his government denies, accusing the opposition of deliberately disrupting proceedings.

Nigerian Govt. Approves Free Transportation For Commuters During Christmas Holiday

The Nigerian government has rolled out a programme aimed at reducing the rising fares of inter-state transportation during the Christmas season.

It has announced a 50 percent rebate for commercial road transportation across 28 luxury bus routes nationwide, and zero fare by rail from December 24th to January 4th next year.

Ukraine's defense minister says Ukrainian men living abroad will be mobilized

Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said the country will begin recruiting men living abroad, and may sanction those who do not show up to recruitment offices. The comments come after President Zelensky's held year-end press conference where he announced that the military had proposed to mobilize 500,000 more men.

However, it's reported Hamas rejected an offer of a temporary pause in fighting during talks in Cairo on Wednesday.

Hamas officials say 20 000 people have been killed in Gaza since the military campaign launched by Israel after the October 7th terrorist attacks.

Justin Trudeau sees ‘shift’ in Canada-India ties after US indictment

A day after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi broke his silence on the United States' allegations of an Indian official's involvement in an assassination plot against a sikh separatist, his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau says India now seems 'more open to collaborating' with Ottawa.

Trudeau's comments come as India has repeatedly made a distinction between allegations made by Canada and the United States over assassination plots targeting Khalistani separatists, saying Canada's claims were not backed by evidence.

 

The Indian government is yet to respond to Mr Trudeau's comments.

US-Venezuela prisoner swaps sees Americans freed

Venezuela has freed ten Americans who'd been detained there, a move the government in Caracas hopes will relieve sanctions on the country. 


As part of an agreed prisoner swap mediated by Qatar, the United States in return released from jail an accused money launderer close to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

U.N Security Council vote on Gaza postponed again

The United Nations Security has officially postponed the vote on a
humanitarian resolution on Gaza to Thursday.
The vote was first scheduled for Monday but due to "intense"
negotiations between member states the vote has been postponed several
times.
These delays come amid reported disagreements by the United States
which has been trying to change the language of the resolution.

Biden says Trump is an insurrectionist, but courts must decide legality of his Presidential bid

US President Joe Biden says there is "no question" that former President Donald Trump is an insurrectionist, but he said he will leave the future of the Republican front-runner's presidential campaign in the hands of the country's courts.

Donald Trump says he is asking the US Supreme Court to overturn Tuesday's ruling by the Colorado Supreme Court that ruled him ineligible to campaign for the Presidency under the "insurrection clause" of the 14th amendment to the American Constitution.

Senate confirms no Ukraine funding deal before new year
