US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the 2+2 ministerial Dialogue in New Delhi

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Llyod Austin have held talks with their Indian counterparts in New Delhi.

Both countries have expressed their desire to strengthen defence and strategic cooperation, especially in the Indo-Pacific.

The talks come ahead of an anticipated meeting between US President Joe Biden and China's Xi Jinping at the APEC summit next week. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be skipping that summit but experts say New Delhi is keen to have Washington's reassurance of support while tackling what it calls China's growing aggression in the region.

India appeals death sentences of ex-naval officers in Qatar

The Indian government has appealed the death sentences handed to eight former Indian naval officers in Qatar.

Canada says its taking threats against Air India blockade seriously

Amid diplomatic tensions with India, Canada says it's taking Sikh separatist group SFJ's threat of a global blockade of Air India flights seriously.

Seven more UN staffers killed in Gaza

Israel agrees to daily humanitarian pauses in Gaza

Israel has agreed to a daily four-hour humanitarian pause in northern Gaza.


The White House announced the move on Thursday, saying the pauses would begin immediately.


This comes after weeks of fighting, which has left more than 10,000 people dead in Gaza.


Some 1,400 Israelis have been killed and more than 200 people taken hostage after an attack on October 7.
