Russia agrees to extend grain deal for sixty days

The United Nations says it will continue to negotiate with Russia
regarding the Black Sea Grain Initiative. Russia on Monday announced
that it will agree to a 60 day extension.
The initiative came about after negotiations by the United Nations and
Turkiye last July with Russia and Ukraine to allow for grain and
fertiliser exports to continue despite the ongoing war.

Trump's former fixer due to testify in hush money probe

Donald Trump's former lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen is expected to testify before a grand jury investigating hush money payments he arranged and made on the former president's behalf.


Mr Cohen's closed-door testimony is coming at a critical time as the Manhattan district attorney's office decides whether to seek charges against Mr Trump.

US regional bank shares tumble

President Biden says US banking system "safe" following SVB collapse

President Joe Biden insists the US banking system is "safe" as he seeks to allay fears of a broader industry crisis following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank, the country's 16th largest lender. 


The federal government, which seized the bank's assets last week, confirmed that customers' money — both insured and uninsured — would be fully protected and accessible from Monday. 


Thousands of technology companies had been facing uncertainty for days after the second biggest bank failure in American history and the most substantial since the height of the global financial crash almost 15 years ago.

UN TRYING TO CONVINCE RUSSIA TO RENEW GRAIN DEAL

Officials from the United Nations and Russia are negotiating the renewal of the Black Sea grain deal, which is due to expire at the end of this week.

Moscow's consistently expressed unhappiness with the deal, claiming it's not seeing the benefits it was promised.

The agreement is designed to guarantee safe export of food and fertiliser through the Black Sea, which is bordered by both Russia and Ukraine.

Without it, food supply and food prices face major disruption as Russia continues to fight Ukraine.

HSBC rescues UK tech firms' SVB deposits in government deal
