Equatorial Guinea confirms Marburg virus outbreak


Equatorial Guinea has recorded its first outbreak of the Marburg virus.

Officials say at least nine people are suspected to have died from the Ebola-like viral disease.

Elections Won’t Hold in 240 Polling Units, says Nigeria’s Electoral Body – INEC

Nigeria's electoral body - The Independent National Electoral Commission says elections will not be held in 240 polling units in 28 states and the Capital Abuja.


INEC says this is because no voter chose the polling units during the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) between June 2021 and July 2022.


The country is preparing to hold presidential elections later this month.

India to receive second tranche of cheetahs as part of its conservation plan

India is set to receive its second tranche of African cheetahs as the country moves ahead with its efforts to reintroduce the extinct animal back into the wild. 

The Cheetahs will be flown in from South Africa and kept in enclosures before being released in the wild. 

Cheetahs were declared extinct in India in 1952, primarily due to habitat loss and excessive poaching by Indian royals and colonial officers.

Japan and South-Korea say they fully support the US response to dealing with a suspected Chinese spy balloon.

al-Assad green lights two additional border crossings for U.N aid

Syrian president Bashar al-Assad has approved the use of two additional border crossings to be used by the United Nations to deliver aid to areas affected by an earthquake which has left at least 37,000 people dead in Syria and Turkiye.

Stocks up ahead of key inflation data

Stocks rose on Monday as markets recovered from their worst weekly declines in nearly two months.

Georgia judge orders partial release of 2020 election interference report

Calls for information after more mysterious objects shot out of sky over US

US lawmakers are demanding transparency as officials face mounting pressure to explain the downing over North America of three unidentified objects in as many days. 


The US military shot down another object on Sunday — the fourth such incident since a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon was destroyed near America's east coast earlier this month.

A US jury is considering whether to give the death penalty to a man who killed eight people on a New York City bike path.

U.N Security Council to discuss more border crossings for humanitarian aid into rebel-held Syria

Malta's representative to the United Nations and president of the
Security Council has defended criticism that the council is dragging
its feet following the earthquake that struck Syria.
The council is the only U.N body that's able to authorise additional
border crossings especially into rebel-held regions of Syria, where
the aid is needed most.

UN: Humanitarian Aid into Syria to be ramped up

Border arrests drop 42% under Biden’s new plan

Earthquake death toll tops 35,000

The death toll from the earthquakes in Turkiye and Syria has now topped 35,000.

However, the United Nations has warned that figure could still double
as more victims are found.
