Jan 6th committee draws links between Donald Trump to violent far-right militias

A "call-to-arms" is how the January 6th Committee investigating last year's attack on the US Capitol has described Donald Trump's tweets in the lead up to the deadly assault. 


During the seventh in a series of congressional hearings, lawmakers heard testimony from witnesses, laying out ties between Mr Trump and the far-right extremist groups at the vanguard of the violent effort to prevent a peaceful transition of power, as Benji Hyer reports from Washington.

UK PM race whittled down to 8

Joe Biden to embark on trip to Middle East and Gulf

Joe Biden will visit the Middle East for the first time as US President tomorrow (Wednesday), with a trip to Israel, the Palestinian territories and Saudi Arabia, where he'll attend the Summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council, a union of Saudi Arabia's neighbouring countries. 


The timing is crucial, with the White House urging greater oil production from Gulf states with the aim of pushing down prices, which reached record highs in the US following a ban on Russian imports.

US kills top ISIS leader in Syria in drone strike

UK's opposition Labour Party consider tabling another vote of confidence to oust Boris Johnson from NO10 as soon as possible

Nominations for those standing to become the next leader of the UK's Conservative Party are well underway and will conclude on Tuesday.


Whilst the voting is taking place, Boris Johnson will remain as Prime Minister in a caretaker role until his replacement is selected in September.

Kuje Jail Attack: Nigeria’s security officials recapture 2 inmates

Nigerian security officials say they have recaptured two inmates who escaped during a jail break at the Kuje medium security custodial center in Abuja.

 

The inmates were among the over 800 inmates who had escaped the facility when Islamic State West Africa province ISWAP, bombed the facility on the 5th of July.

No appeal against Paris 2015 attacks trial verdict

Croatia set to join the Euro currency

Croatia is set to get the formal green light to adopt the euro currency at a meeting of EU finance ministers. 


The Balkan country joined the European Union in 2013 and has been working toward membership of the eurozone ever since. 19 EU member states currently use the euro.
