UK TO PRESS AHEAD WITH RWANDA SCHEME

The UK government says it will press ahead with its policy to deport some asylum seekers to Rwanda, despite its first planned flight being stopped.

A late decision from the European Court of Human Rights intervened to halt the removal of several people.

The UK's signed a controversial deal with Rwanda to transfer some asylum seekers there for processing, if they're believed to have made their way to Britain illegally.

Yolande Makolo, spokesperson for the Rwandan government, says the criticism of the scheme is unfounded.
