New challenges brought against Texas abortion law

Abortion advocates are trying a new tactic in their fight to overturn Texas' restrictive abortion law, which bans the medical procedure after about six weeks of pregnancy.

Two groups have filed a series of new lawsuits that don't even focus on the abortion itself.

US President Biden in Brussels for three major summits on Ukraine

US President Joe Biden is joining fellow Western leaders in Brussels for a series of emergency summits on the war in Ukraine, a month after Russia's invasion began.


NATO, the G7 and the European Union are all holding meetings — Mr Biden will take part in them all, making him the first ever US President to visit an EU summit.

P&O Ferries boss admits company did not consult unions before mass sacking

The chief executive of P&O Ferries acknowledged the firm failed to consult with trade unions before firing 800 staff without notice last week. 


Giving evidence to MPs on Thursday, CEO Peter Hebblethwaite refused to be drawn on whether the ferry operator broke the law. 


But Prime Minister Boris Johnson has accused P&O of breaching UK labour laws, and said the company could face fines or possible prosecution.

Indian private oil company Nayara Energy buys 1.8 billion barrels of Russian oil

Royal Commission finds casino operator facilitated money laundering.

The Royal Commission into Crown Resorts has found the company isn't suitable to hold a casino licence in Perth in the state of Western Australia - but it can still operate.


The 1000-page report found Crown, which also operates casinos in two other states, had facilitated money laundering - enabled junkets with links to organised crime - and failed to minimise gambling-related harm through the use of electronic gaming machines.

China plane crash investigators analyse cockpit voice recorder

Crash investigators in China are analyzing the cockpit voice recorder from the Boeing jetliner that crashed on Monday. Rescue work at the crash site has been hampered by bad weather, and all 132 passengers and nine crew are presumed dead.

Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, dead at 84


Madeleine Albright, America's first female secretary of State has died at the age of 84.


She'd been battling cancer.


Born in Czechoslovakia, her family moved to the United States when she was just 11 after fleeing first the Nazis and then the Communists.


President Bill Clinton appointed her to be America's Ambassador to the United Nations, and then promoted her to the State Department.


She was a proponent of NATO expansion, and urged the White House to take a stronger position on the conflict in Bosnia.

NATO leaders to agree new battle group deployments on Eastern flank amid Ukraine conflict

NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg says member nations are expected to agree to further beef up the alliance's Eastern flank, with new battle group deployments in Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia.

Spring Statement: British Chancellor unveils mini-budget

Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced he is slashing fuel duty by 5p a litre and lifting the threshold for National Insurance contributions by £3000, among other measures to help British households weather the cost of living crisis.


Sunak also unveiled the first cut to the basic rate of income tax in 16 years - by the end of Parliament in 2024.
