US/Russia talks underway in Geneva

Talks between the US and Russia over Ukraine are underway in Geneva, though both sides are downplaying expectations for the meeting.


Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman heads the US delegation.

Uganda schools reopen after longest closure in history

Schools in Uganda have reopened after more than eighty weeks of closure. 

According to a UNICEF report last year, Uganda had the world's longest school closure over COVID.

Pfizer says Omicron-specific vaccine "will be ready by March"

Aid agencies appeal for more funds to address food crisis in South Sudan


Aid agencies say three years of flooding have pushed many South Sudanese people to continue to suffer, stuck in poor living conditions and at risk of outbreaks of infectious and waterborne diseases.
