Belarusian court hands opposition leader's husband long sentence

A Belarusian court has sentenced the husband of opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to 18 years in prison. Siarhei Tsikahanouski tried to run in last year's presidential election, but was arrested for organising mass unrest and inciting hatred. Julia Chapman has more.

Nassar abuse victims reach $380m settlement

Officials in the US have reached a $380 million settlement with more
than 500 gymnasts who were abused by former team doctor Larry Nassar.

UK Prime Minister confirms first Omicron death as government warns of rise in hospitalizations

The British government is warning that the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is now spreading rapidly, with hospitalizations expected to rise dramatically in the days and weeks ahead.


Britain's health secretary Sajid Javid said the variant is now responsible for a fifth of Covid-19 cases in the UK and he again urged everyone over the age of 18 to sign up for a booster shot as soon as possible.


Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed at least one death from the Omicron variant so far, and offered this message today as he toured a vaccination center.

64 dead in Kentucky tornadoes, final toll likely to rise

Desparate search and rescue operations are still underway across 6 separate American states following the record-breaking tornadoes that ripped through a 225 mile corridor in the early hours of Saturday morning.


At least 105 people remain unaccounted for, with several towns in Kentucky obliterated from the map by the storm.


They include Dawson's Springs and Mayfield…where dogs are being used in the search for survivors and human remains.


Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky became emotional this morning when disclosing the latest news on fatalities.

One dead in maritime crash in Swedish waters

One of two Danish crew members missing from a capsized barge has been found dead in the hull after an overnight collision with a British cargo vessel in the Baltic Sea. 

The two ships collided whilst travelling in fog and darkness near the Danish island of Bornholm.

WSJ report: Hospitals faced with worker shortage disregarding vaccine mandates

Tornadoes update: Americans across eight US states wake up to new reality

The aftermath and devastation wrought by a series of tornados that ripped through eight U.S. states on Friday.

Thousands of farmers vacate protest sites in Delhi but say will launch local campaigns
