NEW GERMAN CHANCELLOR OLAF SCHOLZ GETS DOWN TO WORK

A day after being sworn in, newly elected German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has begun taking charge of the country's coronavirus response. 

63-year old Scholz takes office as Germany struggles to contain a major resurgence of Covid-19 - an immediate challenge his government says remains the top priority.

More than a year in, Indian farmers call off protest

Tens of thousands of farmers who've led one of the longest and largest protests in recent Indian history have formally announced that they are ending their demonstration.

Hong Kong makes public COVID-19 contact-tracing app mandatory

Hong Kong is making it mandatory for the public to use a government contact-tracing app to enter a range of public venues such as restaurants and bars. Health authorities say it will improve the risk management of COVID-19 transmission in the community. Critics of the app say it is an invasion of public privacy.

Boris Johnson tightens Covid-19 restrictions in England as Omicron spreads

Canada joins US diplomatic boycott of Beijing Olympics

French police release Saudi man wrongly held over connection to Jamal Khashoggi death

French police have released the man arrested on Tuesday at a Paris
airport who was believed to have been wanted in connection with the
killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018.

It is understood the Saudi national who was detained had the same name
as another man wanted over what the UN says was the "extrajudicial
killing" of Jamal Khashoggi "by Saudi Arabia" three years ago.

Pfizer BioNTech says booster offers significant protection against Omicron
