Japan PM Kishida and US President Biden agree to strengthen alliance in first in-person talks

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and US President Joe Biden agreed to strengthen the Japan-US alliance in their first in person talks. The meeting came on the sidelines of the UN climate summit, which marked Kishida's debut on the world stage.

Hong Kong police investigate fake COVID-19 tracing app

Hong Kong police are on the hunt for the developers of a fake government COVID-19 tracing app. The public are required to use the official mobile app to record their daily movements, as part of efforts to monitor the spread of the virus. But critics say it's unnecessary, and infringes personal privacy.

Independent US Advisers Recommend Vaccine for Children

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's independent vaccine advisers have unanimously endorsed the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children  ages 5 to 11.

That sets the stage for the vaccination of elementary school children in the United States.

Ethiopia Declares state of emergency

Ethiopia has declared a nationwide state of emergency, following threats from rebel forces that they are planning to enter the capital city, Addis Ababa. 


There has been intensive fighting in parts of the country's North with the rebels, the Tigray People Liberation Front taking control of some major cities.

UK Prime Minister says COP26 promises will be useless if there is no action

Cop 26: More than 80 nations pledge methane cuts

At the Cop26 climate conference in Glasgow More than 80 countries have now agreed to cut global emissions of methane by 30 per cent by the end of the decade.


The proposals were endorsed jointly by the US and the EU…though some environmentalists say they don't go far enough.


And 100 countries have agreed to end and reverse deforestation by the year 2030.


President Biden called that plan the first of its kind.
