US jobless claims fall to lowest pandemic level

The number of Americans filing as unemployed has dropped to its lowest
level since the start of the pandemic last March.

It's a fourth straight week of lows, suggesting the US economy is on
the rebound.

EU MULLS COVID VACCINE IP WAIVER

Pressure is growing on the European Union to support at least 100 countries calling for a waiver of COVID-19 vaccine intellectual property rights, after US President Joe Biden endorsed the idea.

So far the EU's been opposed to such a move, saying it wouldn't help solve the problem of vaccine production.

But European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen now says she's "ready to assess" the idea.

WHO welcomes Biden administration's support for lifting COVID-19 vaccine waivers

The head of the World Health Organization has applauded the Biden administration for its decision to back waivers for coronavirus vaccine patents.

Russia authorises single-dose COVID-19 vaccine

Russian regulators have approved a single-injection COVID-19 vaccine, using the first dose of the country's Sputnik jab. The developers say one dose provides nearly 80% efficacy against infection after 28 days. Sputnik Light is the fourth coronavirus vaccine to be used in Russia, as Julia Chapman reports.

ANC suspends defiant secretary general

29 students in Nigeria released after 2 months of captivity by kidnappers


29 students who have been in captivity by unknown gunmen for about two months in Kaduna north central Nigeria, have regained their freedom. 

The government says it will continue in it's search for the kidnappers.

Voting underway in 'Super Thursday' elections in Britain

Millions of people across the UK are heading to the polls in the nation's biggest set of votes since the 2019 general election.


Ballots will be cast for the Scottish and Welsh Parliament, as well as councils mayoralties in England, with results expected over the coming days.

Australia – Covid flight ban to be challenged in court

An Australian man, stranded in India since March last year, has lodged a challenge in the Federal Court against the validity of the governments decision to ban travel home from India.


The travel restrictions mean anyone travelling home to Australia from India, could face up to five year in prison and fines of up to $66,000.
