Africa Union halts AstraZeneca supply plans following UK and EU age limits

The Africa Union has decided to stop plans to secure doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine because of supply concerns from India. 

Focus will now turn to the single-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine instead.

African countries will continue to receive supplies of AstraZeneca through the WHO's vaccine sharing facility Covax.

Lift-off for foreign travel to/from Britain -- but only after testing

The British government is hoping to deliver a boost to public spirits with news that post-pandemic foreign holidays could resume this summer — but questions remain about whether the cost of testing will make non-essential travelling abroad unaffordable for many.

France to stop second AstraZeneca doses for under-55s

The French High Authority for Health is recommending that people under the age of 55 who had an AstraZeneca shot for their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine should have Pfizer or Moderna for their second shot.

French health officials say that combining two vaccines poses no risks.

Soyuz rocket launches to mark spaceflight anniversary

A Soyuz rocket has launched from Kazakhstan's Baikonur Cosmodrome to transport a team of astronauts to the International Space Station. Their journey comes as Russia prepares to mark sixty years since the first person launched into Space. Julia Chapman reports.

SADC LEADERS CONDEMN MOZ ATTACKS, DEPLOY A TECHNICAL MISSION

The UK government's confirmed plans it hopes will allow non-essential international travel to resume to some destinations from mid-May.

Australia – Under 50's advised not to take Astra Zeneca jab

The Australian government is recommending people under the age of 50 not take the AstraZeneca covid vaccine.

Beijing Could Vaccinate 70% of Residents by May

World’s first living donor lung transplant for Japan COVID patient

Doctors at Kyoto University Hospital performed the world's first living lung transplant. The patient, whose lungs were damaged after contracting COVID-19, received parts of healthy lungs from her husband and son.


There is now hope that this procedure could cut waiting times for other patients in need of transplants.

First Hong Kong flights from UK in months sell out within hours

Weekly jobless claims data disappoints

UK condemns "coup in London" at Myanmar's embassy

Britain's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has condemned what he called the "bullying actions" of Myanmar's regime after the military attaché locked the country's ambassador out of the embassy in London.
