World’s first living donor lung transplant for Japan COVID patient

Doctors at Kyoto University Hospital performed the world's first living lung transplant. The patient, whose lungs were damaged after contracting COVID-19, received parts of healthy lungs from her husband and son.


There is now hope that this procedure could cut waiting times for other patients in need of transplants.
