ENERGY EXPORTS LESS THAN HALF OF ALL RUSSIAN EXPORTS, FOR FIRST TIME IN TWO DECADES

Less than half of Russia's total exports in 2020 came from energy — a first for two decades.

Coal, oil and gas exports accounted for just 49.6% of all exports -- hampered by very low oil prices at the beginning of the year.

But overall, Russia's total exports exceeded 100 billion dollars, beating more pessimistic forecasts from earlier in the year as energy prices recovered.

DRC REBEL ATTACK

UK moves to phase 2 of its vaccine rollout

The UK is moving into the next phase of its vaccine rollout after hitting its first target.

 

The government had set itself a goal of vaccinating 15 million of the most vulnerable by February 15, a target that it says it has now achieved.

Rwanda Starts COVID-19 Vaccination With Front-line Workers

UK HOTEL QUARANTINE BEGINS

The first passengers are checking into UK government-designated coronavirus quarantine hotels.

Death toll rises in Himalayan disaster in Uttarakhand

DRC EBOLA CASES RISE

Authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have detected a third case of Ebola in the eastern province of North Kivu.
The new case comes a week after the first patient who tested positive for Ebola died near  the city of Butembo. The resurgence of Ebola in the region is a big setback to the country that declared the end of a previous outbreak last year.

Avian Influenza "Bird flu' detected again in Nigeria


The Nigerian government has confirmed the resurgence of Avian Influenza commonly called bird fly which is a highly contagious viral infection of birds in the country.

Nigeria was the first country in Africa to detect bird flu, in 2006 and 2007.
