US bound migrant caravan stopped by security forces

A caravan of Central American migrants heading for the US border, have
been blocked by security forces in Guatemala.

It's set to be an early challenge for the incoming US President Joe
Biden, who has promised to revise immigration policy.

Belgium is beginning its vaccination campaign in hospitals, with some using the Moderna vaccine for the first time since it was given regulatory approval in early January.

Biden expected to cancel Keystone pipeline on day one

Canadian media are reporting that U.S. President-Elect Joe Biden plans to cancel a major oil pipeline project on his first day in office. The Canadian section of the controversial Keystone XL pipeline is already partly built after being greenlit by Donald Trump. Julia Chapman has more.

ALEXEY NAVALNY IN COURT

Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny is in court, after being arrested on Sunday at one of Moscow's airports.

The expedited trial has been set up in the police station where he is detained, and a judge brought in to carry out proceedings.

Indian farmers gear up to intensify their protest against the new agriculture laws

Indian farmers who have been protesting on the outskirts of Delhi, are gearing up for a tractor rally scheduled to take place on 26th January - which is India's Republic Day.

The Supreme Court of India, while hearing a plea seeking an injunction on the tractor rally, said that the Delhi Police should decide if the protesting farmers should be allowed entry into the capital.

UK travel corridors have closed

All UK travel corridors have now closed. The corridors meant that those coming to Britain from selected countries could avoid quarantine, even during the pandemic. 


But now, people arriving in the UK from any nation have to isolate, and show proof of a negative Covid-19 test before being allowed to enter.

Germany ponders nighttime curfew to combat Covid-19

Germans are being told to prepare for national lockdown restrictions to be extended yet again - as the country's infection rate remains well above government targets.

England to begin offering vaccines to over 70s

People in England aged over 70 will start receiving offers for a vaccination this week.

UK EXPANDS VACCINATION PROGRAMME

10 mass vaccination hubs have opened in the UK as the country expands its inoculation programme.

Over 3.8 million people have already received their first jab.

People aged 70 and over and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable will now start receiving vaccination appointments.

The government has a target of providing a first dose to its top priority groups by mid-February.

India's COVID19 vaccine drive hit by glitches, hesitancy

Many regions reported glitches with the government app being used to coordinate the massive vaccine drive in India.

The state of Maharashtra says it had to suspend the drive in some places temporarily. Government data shows that turnout was also much lower than expected.

BREAKING: All National Guard troops in Washington to undergo additional security sweep ahead of inauguration

The Pentagon says that all twenty-five thousand national guard troops deployed in Washington for Joe Biden's inauguration later this week are now undergoing additional security checks to ensure they pose no threat to the President-elect.

Biden to issue executive orders during first 10 days in office

Joe Biden is expected to call for unity at his inauguration amid tightening security in Washington DC following the riots at the US capitol on January 6th.

Hong Kong begins approval analysis of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
