The major U.S. indexes posted losses Thursday as lawmakers remain
gridlocked over another coronavirus spending package.

And climbing Covid-19 cases across parts of the U.S. and Europe
further dampened investor sentiment.

EU says Brexit talks will continue next week in London followed leaders summit

The EU's Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier has announced post-Brexit trade talks will continue in London next week.

It follows a two-day summit of EU leaders which focussed on the status of the negotiations with the UK. 

Compromise will need to be found on fishing rights, and rules on fair competition. 

Downing Street says Prime Minister Boris Johnson will decide the next steps on Friday.

German teachers told to air out classrooms to stop Covid-19

German teachers have been given new guidelines to keep classrooms safe for children during the Covid-19 pandemic. The instructions come as the country records the highest daily number of infections since the outbreak started.

UN human rights chief cautions against draconian rape laws

The United Nations human rights chief has called on governments to ramp up efforts to prevent rape and sexual crimes, but cautioned against laws that carry cruel and inhuman punishments, including surgical castration and the death penalty. 


Michelle Bachelet's comments follow reports of horrific rapes in various countries and the enactment of new government legislation that violate international human rights laws.

Jobless claims in U.S. spike to highest level in over a month

Nearly 900,000 Americans filmed for first time unemployment benefits

The EU sanctions top Russian officials over Navalny’s poisoning

London to go into 'high' tier of lockdown from this weekend

Millions of people in London are bracing themselves for the next level of Coronavirus restrictions.


At midnight on Friday (aka Saturday morning), the capital will move into Tier 2 of the UK's three-tier system, from 'medium' risk to 'high.' 


That means households will be banned from mixing inside.
