US Defense Secretary breaks with Trump over use of military on American streets

US Defense Secretary Mark Esper says he opposes the use a 19th century law to deploy American troops onto the streets of the country's cities.


He's told reporters he was not aware that he was going to be participating in a photo-opportunity with the President at a church near the White House earlier this week.,


And he's vowed to keep the military apolitical.

Calmer streets in NYC on second night of curfew

200 hundred people were arrested in New York City on Tuesday night
after protestors ignored a curfew to demonstrate against the death of
George Floyd.

Tensions high after another night of U.S. protests

Tens of thousands of people across the United States are continuing their protests over the killing of unarmed African American, George Floyd, while in the hands of the Minneapolis police last week.

For an eighth consecutive night, thousands defied city curfews to march- mainly peacefully, amid growing calls for reforms to U.S. policing.

IBUPROFEN TREATMENT BEING TRIALLED IN LONDON HOSPITAL

Ibuprofen is being tested as a treatment for patients with COVID-19 at St Thomas' hospital in London.

UK SETS OUT QUARANTINE FOR INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS

AUSTRALIA: Nation falls into recession - but Treasurer lauds the result

Australia's Treasurer Josh Frydenberg says the economic downturn which was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has pushed Australia into recession.
The latest data shows the Australian economy contracted by point-3 of a per cent in the March quarter, and a worse result is expected next quarter.
Josh Frydenberg says measures to slow the spread of coronavirus have caused most problems, but bushfires and drought didn't help.
Even so, he has defended Australia's fiscal performance and compared it with other economies around the world.

Coronavirus fears in S. Korea shift back to churches amid new infections

Mumbai braces for Cyclone Nisarga

Mumbai is braced for Cyclone Nisarga, which is expected to make landfall on Wednesday and would be the first cyclone to hit India's financial capital in more than a century.

20,000 march in Paris for Black Lives Matter demonstration

Tens of thousands of people joined a demonstration in Paris for the second day running as part of the anti-racist Black Lives Matter movement.

Police used tear gas as violence broke out following an earlier peaceful march where the sister of a black man killed in France in police custody addressed the crowds.

Protests heating up outside the White House

Tensions are heating up outside the White House, with demonstrators saying President Trump's threats to use military force to restore law and order only prove the need to keep protests going.
