US Defense Secretary Mark Esper says he opposes the use a 19th century law to deploy American troops onto the streets of the country's cities.
He's told reporters he was not aware that he was going to be participating in a photo-opportunity with the President at a church near the White House earlier this week.,
And he's vowed to keep the military apolitical.
